Teaching
“The most important attitude that can be formed is that of desire to go on learning.”
— John Dewey, Experience and Education
Natalia Mehlman Petrzela is a passionate and committed teacher, thanks in large measure to her own incredible mentors.
Her first formal exposure to teaching was as a college tutor at a Harlem after-school program; since then she has taught adults English, middle-schoolers Spanish, and instructed everything from SATs to social theory. In graduate school, she was awarded Stanford University’s Centennial Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Today, Natalia teaches a range of courses in American history and culture at The New School, and leads occasional intenSati movement classes.
Her highest goal as a teacher is that her students come to understand the world as more expansive than their own experiences, and that they acquire the skills, knowledge, and inspiration to transform it.
